Kinetic Panel Sculpture - "Butterfly"

I installed this kinetic sculpture last year for a client and of course had forgotten to take our camera along to get any pictures.  She recently sent me pictures in its progression through several seasons. Very cool.

It stood nearly 5' tall and has two blades that spin on large ball bearing swivels.  The base is supported by tube.  The first picture reminds me of a butterfly catching it's first rays of sunlight in the morning, it's wings soaking up the sun's warmth.

Giant Butterfly

This butterfly recently sold at the Rubinkam Gallery down in Douglas.  One of my biggest butterflies to date, it has a 4' wingspan.  The sculpture is nearly 5' tall.  There is a cement footing that the base bolts to.  I just used some heavy rocks as a counter weight temporarily here.  Fun build!  Looking forward to some more nature sculpts.  Enjoy!

"Woman" Jewelry Display Sculpture

This jewelry rack is heading out to a client in Boulder Colorado.  It stands over 4' tall and can accommodate numerous sets of jewelry to be displayed on the main wire 'body' panel.  It's been fun to experiment with some different grinding and surfacing techniques on these unique sculptures.

Artsy Designer Tables

Just finished up on a few table commissions to be placed in a gallery down in Saugatuck.  Some of the tables have holes cut out of the top and color fused glass will be placed on the top plate.  The glass will be under-lit with LED lighting to make the glass glow and pop out at you.

I really enjoy making custom tables.  The options are endless.  Leave it up to the imagination.  If interested in a quote, please contact me.  Thanks!

Copper and Stainless Steel Jewelry Designs.

This past week I began making some jewelry designs for Regina's Gallery .  Each set includes a bracelet, pendant, and earrings (not pictured).  I make them out of both copper and stainless steel.  The ones pictured are made out of copper and I've worked in a heat patina on the work.  Each piece is free hand cut using a plasma cutter.  My 'base' work is than blinged up with Regina's jewel work, as she will add her glass and wire to infuse the piece with character.  It truly is beautiful and must be seen in person to be appreciated.  I'll post updated pictures as pieces are finished.

Custom Fire Bowl Design

...welded on stars are stainless steel.
...just add lava rock.
This past week I brought to market a new fire pit design. It can burn propane, natural gas, or wood. I'm selling them with the gas fittings and regulator to hook up to your gas grill style propane tank. Place a grate over the pit and fire it up as a barbecue pit.

Made from 1/4" plate steel. Top height is nearly 36". Bowl diameter is nearly 34". Base can be staked into ground, or placed on your deck. Customize your bowl any way you please. Just use your imagination and ask!

Growing up, I've always enjoyed being around fire. The heat and the mesmerizing flames draw me in. I'm looking forward to designing some new bowls utilizing...

Kinetic features.
Fused glass.

Stay tuned...

Glass Fusion Metal Fountain - Art Prize 2011

Here's a sneak peak at this years possible ARTPRIZE entry. A stainless steel and fused glass fountain. It's in the beginning stages right now. A lot more polishing and metal work to do yet. It will be a collaboration between myself and Regina Johandes. Regina does some amazing glass work. By far, it is the best I have seen.

Below is a short video of some of her work. She plugged a few of my jewelry racks in, starting around 42 seconds. http://www.designsbyreginamarie.com/video.htm

"Climb" Sculpture - Art of Leadership

Some early shots here of a commission I'm working on for the Art of Leadership Foundation in Detroit. The sculpture is currently resting on its side while working on the metal rocks and climber. The sculpture is in what I call a "roughed in" stage. It's starting to take shape, but there is much to be done yet.

Each rock has a word underneath it and is represented in levels. The climber is progressing and climbing through these tiers....reaching and climbing through rocks in life that hold us back and make us stumble. Climbing further, the person is reaching for goals and standing on rocks that are firm and do not fall.

Rock Obstacles:

Peer Pressure
Abuse
Poverty
Temptation
Indifference

Foundation Rocks:

Family
Integrity
Love
Education
Faith

Rocks reached for:

Wisdom
Leadership
Success
Respect

The sculpture in the end will stand nearly 10 feet in height and 4 feet in width. It's made out of stainless steel and will rest on a 5'x5' cement pad. The back of the sculpture will have a stainless tube support which will be a tree with the foundations logo within.
